Clean my Mac

Does anyone know how to care for a MacBook? My white beauty is dingy gray on the keyboard section. Apparently, white computers gather any imaginable filth that lingers on my finger and hands. The woes of being left handed leave my keyboard even more filthy as the graphite from a thousand comments on student papers is now wiped off on my a,s,d,f, keys and the space bar.

Also, the monitor is dirty and I don't know how to clean it. I tried different sorts of wipes with paper products. Now I mostly use spit and my filthy finger to get the big spots off it.

How the heck are you supposed to keep a computer clean? Why didn't I order the black one? This is going to plague and bother me for years until the entire machine is a solid shade of gray and I stop noticing. I'm gross...

my keyboard (on my Dell) is black, but my screen is dirty too. I was thinking of swiping some of my the wipey things my mom buys for her reading glasses to try....

You should be able to put some fantastic,409,or some type of cleaner like that on a cloth and wipe everything except the screen. Or if you have some cleaning wipes. That sgould work also.

I've been known to use Clorox wipes on my keyboard. It hasn't hurt anything...yet. These screens, though--I have no idea. I'll see what I can find out from techie types.

Take your favorite cleaner, unscrew the spray top and pour some out in a cup. Get a box of Qtips and scrub every key after having dipped them in cleaner. Make sure the machine is off and unplugged and don't turn it on until everything has dried. Wring out the Qtips on the side of the cup so that they don't drip. Not that I have done this, or anything. Just saying that I know rags are not precise enough to do the job.

Don't use cleaners on the screen! And also don't use your fingers on the screen (try to avoid touching it even when you're pointing to something for demonstration purposes) -- the oils on your fingers make the screen worse, not better.
Just use a dry cloth or paper towel, and maybe a tiny bit of just water if needed.
Em's idea for the Q-Tips on the keyboard sounds good to me, although I can't imagine ever putting that much effort into it (but I guess I could imagine YOU putting that much effort into it).
I will attempt to clean it for you on Christmas if you'd like.

I use ethanol on my baby (to clarify, I'm talking about my iBook, which is worth more than anything else I own). But then again, I work in a lab so I have access to it, and use it on every at-work surface.

This is an annoying problem. Recommendations I've gotten for cleaning the surface south of the keys that gets dingy from your wrists are: Mr Clean Magic Eraser, a tiny bit of 90% alcohol on a q-tip or cotton ball and/or eyeglass cleaner. DO NOT use these on your screen or keys, however. Apple sells a special spray cleaner for the screen and keyboard that runs about $19.95. I also used LCD wipes on the screen and it seemed to work pretty well. I wouldn't recommend using any household cleaners for the screen and keys, though. Also, I heard Apple will replace the plastics for you on the macbook if they are dingy, so you might want to try that, and then buy an isleeve or just wear elbow-length latex gloves all the time...

Sorry, i meant iSkin, not isleeve.
