Numb Me

We have television now. Corey received, as a gift for completing an accounting program, one year of basic cable. For a long, dark time we had no television. Now, we do. I fear my ability to be productive has been extremely diminished. I hope it's just a general fad because of newness and Olympic hype, but I stayed up until 12:30 last night watching 12 year old girls do back flips. I couldn't tear myself away.

Even exhausted and dirty from rugby practice, I sat on my couch until the Olympics were over, barely blinking. Even commercials seemed dazzling. I had forgotten how absolutely beautiful and riveting television is. I am so glad to rejoin society, where I will now get references to popular shows or at least see movie previews and know what the hype is about.

we just got a convertor box (one of the HD country is going digital deals) and have the same problem. I almost miss my internet only television because it required more effort to watch.

I stayed up until 12:30 too for the olympics... I'm in love with all the swimmers. They are amazing. And I love gymnastics... oh and I had to wake up at 3 am to go to OR for work... not smart.

"Even exhausted and dirty from rugby practice..."

Me too, at least on Monday night. Last night after practice I spent half my time turned around in my seat at the restaurant half listening to my teammates talking about scrums and mostly gawking at male gymnasts on the TV over the bar. If rugby were an olympic sport (and actually televised) I would get nothing done for two weeks.

Why isn't rugby an olympic sport?? Basketball and ice hockey are...is soccer? Rugby totally should be.

ah, mer, you have opened a big can of worms with that question. a version of rugby called "sevens" was sort of supposed to be an olympic sport for this year but lost out to, i think, water polo or something as one of the emerging sports that got to be included. rugby was at one time an olympic sport. in 1924, the us men won the gold medal against france. that was the last time, so we are the reigning olympic champions!
