Burny Smells

When I baked the pumpkin pies last weekend (and devoured them both basically on my own) I spilled a little filling in the oven. The apartment has been smelling grossly of burnt pumpkin ever since. So I was really excited to come home from my field trip to smell burning olive oil and chicken parts. Corey tried to make himself chicken parm while I was away. Isn't that cute? He pulled out his "romantic meal" for himself while I was away, only he used Pasta Roni as sauce and had a bit of a disaster with the hot oil.

I was ok sitting in the living room with the stink. Sort of. But when I climbed into my bed and my pillow smelled like smokey diner, I got upset.

So how do I detox the house? How can it smell nice in here again? I have been burning a pumpkin spice candle simultaneously with the blueberry candle. It just smells like a diner that's baking pies. It's too cold to open the windows. Something must be done in here or I am going to cry.

First you do need to turn off the heat and open the windows if only for a short time. Wash the bedding, and get some air freshners that eliminate orders. Oust comes to mind. i also spray my home daily with Fabreeze for smells and germs. And I also give "the body" a squirt or two for good measure because she stinks also. If burning candles a clean cotton I have found covers up almost any smell. hope this helps.

first do all dishes, clean all containters, counters sinks and ovens that were party to the smell.

then start the candle burning. check all canvas bags, open closets and other items that absorb stink.

i agree with kk that you need to open the windows and fabreeze the hell out of it.

then wash yourself, your hair will hold the smell.

finally make sure it isnt lingering in the trash too. baking soda.

febreeze air effects (linen and sky smells like clean laundry) and a fan. walk through the whole apt with the air effects and then have a fan pointed out the kitchen window. i had the same prob not too long ago. regular febreeze on any fabrics works too - futon, comforter, pillows. change the pillowcases. the smell really shouldn't linger beyond that. of course, it's great to take all that free time you have and scrub the place top to bottom, but c'mon. who's gonna do that?

i think corey would want to do a total cleaning from ceiling to floors - kitchen cupboards, drawers, curtains, too...i'm picturing it now!

First of all- clean the goop out of your oven. Then sprinkle baking soda on the carpet and couches (works better then febreeze) let it sit 5 mins then vacuum it up. Then use febreeze and wash your bedding... It may be cold but if you open your windows for a few mins as your getting ready for work then shut them before you leave by the time you come home in the evening the apt will be warm again.

Well, I do not have time to buy oven cleaner this week but will do that when I get back from playoffs. The Febreeze, window respite, and candle treatment seemed to work. Shockingly, Corey changed the sheets on his own yesterday, so that took care of the pillows. I'll see how it smells when I get back from Ohio.
